Google AI Pro Price in 2026: Every Tier Compared
Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month. Below it sits AI Plus at $4.99, and above it AI Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 depending on tier. New subscribers have frequently been offered 50% off Pro for the first year, which brings the effective first-year cost close to $10 a month.
Google reshuffled these tiers repeatedly through 2026, so here is where they currently stand and which one actually suits a student or freelancer.
Google AI subscription price at a glance
| Tier | Per month | Per year | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Occasional use with tight limits |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 | $59.88 | Light users, plus 400GB storage |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | $239.88 | Daily work: research, writing, video |
| Google AI Ultra | $99.99 or $199.99 | $1,199.88+ | Sustained professional workloads |
Google cut AI Plus from $7.99 to $4.99 in June 2026, and reduced the top Ultra tier from $250 to $200 while introducing a $99.99 Ultra option. The line-up has moved more than once this year, so it is worth confirming current pricing before you commit.

What $19.99 buys on AI Pro
AI Pro is the tier built for daily productive use. It carries full access to Google's flagship Gemini Pro model, Deep Research for multi-step investigation, Veo for video generation, and a monthly allowance of AI credits for the heavier generative features.
The credit allowance is the part people underestimate. Video and image generation consume credits far faster than text does, so if Veo is your main reason for subscribing, the allowance rather than the model access is what will determine whether Pro is enough.
Storage is bundled across these plans too, which matters if you are already paying separately for Google One. Check what you currently pay for storage before adding an AI plan on top — you may be duplicating it.
Which tier fits a student or freelancer
Start on Plus
At $4.99 with 400GB of storage, AI Plus covers light research and writing plus the storage most students need. It is the cheapest paid entry by a wide margin.
Pro if you bill for it
$19.99 a month is $239.88 a year. If AI work is part of what clients pay you for — research, drafts, video — it clears that bar quickly. With a first-year discount it clears it faster.
Skip Ultra
At $99.99 to $199.99 a month, Ultra is built for sustained professional volume. Very few individual students or freelancers will extract that much value from it.
The practical advice is to start lower than you think you need. Google's own free tier and the $4.99 Plus plan cover a surprising amount, and you will know within a fortnight whether you are hitting limits often enough to justify $19.99.
Cheaper ways to get Google AI Pro
Take the first-year discount. Google has repeatedly offered 50% off Pro for new subscribers' first year, which brings it to roughly $10 a month. Check whether it is running before you subscribe at full price.
Check for student offers. Google periodically runs extended free access for verified students in eligible countries. If you qualify, it is worth confirming before paying anything.
Do not double-pay for storage. These plans bundle Google One storage. If you already subscribe to storage separately, consolidating can offset a chunk of the AI plan cost.
