How to Pay for Netflix, Spotify and ChatGPT in Pakistan
To pay for Netflix, Spotify or ChatGPT from Pakistan, you need a debit or credit card that is enabled for online international transactions. Since 1 July 2026, banks deduct 0.5% advance tax on those payments, down from 5%.
Most failed sign-ups come down to one setting on the card. Here is what gets charged, why cards are declined, and how to fix it.
What you pay on top of the subscription
| Charge | Before 1 July 2026 | From 1 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Advance tax on international card payments | 5% | 0.5% |
| Currency markup (dollar-priced services) | A few percent, set by your bank | A few percent, set by your bank |
The tax change comes from the Finance Act 2026 (Budget 2026-27), amending Section 236Y of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Filers can claim the deducted tax as a credit; non-filers cannot. Ask your bank for its exact currency markup.
| Service | Monthly price in Pakistan | Cheapest plan |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Rs 250 to Rs 1,100 | Mobile, Rs 250 |
| Spotify Premium | Rs 199 to Rs 679 | Student, Rs 199 |
| ChatGPT | Rs 1,400 (Go) or about Rs 5,700 (Plus) | Go, Rs 1,400 |
How to set up your card, step by step
1. Enable international online payments. Open your bank app and look for card controls or e-commerce settings, or call the helpline. Many debit cards have this switched off by default.
2. Keep enough balance. Services often place a small verification charge when you add a card, and a debit card with too little balance fails.
3. Check the total before confirming. The sign-up screen shows the plan price; the tax and any currency markup appear on your bank statement.
4. Watch the first renewal. Some banks block recurring international charges even when the first payment worked. If the renewal fails, ask the bank to allow recurring payments to that merchant.
Can you pay with JazzCash or Easypaisa?
Not as a wallet on its own. Netflix does not list JazzCash or Easypaisa as a direct payment option, and the same card-first setup applies to most international subscriptions. A wallet only works if it gives you a card that is enabled for international online payments, and the merchant is not blocked by the issuer.
Digital banks that issue cards through their apps are a popular option for online subscriptions in Pakistan. Whichever card you use, check its international limits and fees in the app first.
Why your card was declined
International payments are off. This is the most common reason. Turn them on in your bank app.
Online or monthly limit reached. Many cards have a separate, low limit for international use.
The bank blocked the merchant. Call the bank and ask it to allow the payment.
Card details or address mismatch. Re-enter the card exactly as printed, including the expiry date.

Usually because international online payments are switched off on the card. Other causes are a low international limit, insufficient balance, or the bank blocking the merchant.

Not as a wallet on its own. Netflix does not list them as a direct payment option, so it only works if the wallet gives you a card enabled for international online payments.
