This was the first US price rise since 2023, and the Family plan absorbed the largest jump at $4 a month — $48 more a year. New subscribers paid the new rate immediately, with existing subscribers moved across in June 2026.
Is Premium Lite worth considering?
Premium Lite at $8.99 removes ads from most videos but leaves out the extras: background play, downloads and YouTube Music are not included. It is $7 a month cheaper than full Premium.
That trade only makes sense if ads are your single complaint. The features people actually miss when they downgrade are background play and offline downloads, both of which sit on full Premium.
If you also use Spotify or another music service, Lite becomes more sensible — you are not paying twice for streaming music. If YouTube Music is your main library, full Premium is doing two jobs and the $15.99 reads differently.
